Right at the outset I would like to “Congratulate” you and the entire SMSRC team on the successful completion of the 1st decade of SMSRC operations. A strong foundation is the crucial building block of any successful organization, but its strength is only known from the height of the building / organization built on this strong platform.
My association with ‘Prescription Research’ dates back to the days of Prof. Mitra way back in the early 1990’s. My acceptance and conviction in strong research data backed brand / marketing approach grew through my grooming in top MNCs and Indian companies including Boots/Knoll, Elililly, Zydus Cadila etc. It was further re-enforced due to my close association with Dr. Sanjoy Mitra, esp. in my 4-5 years stint as head of Corporate Strategy and M&A at Zydus Cadila, where we also conducted many Strategic Workshops and Brand evaluation studies.
I have recently, since January 2017, taken up the exciting responsibility of professionalizing the Albert David operations. This task obviously would have been incomplete without the inputs and expert guidance of SMSRC and Dr. Sanjoy Mitra. We have together drawn out a 5-year strategic road map for Albert David Ltd. We have had a fairly satisfactory execution of plans over the past 2 years and the results are beginning to show. We thus are hopeful of stronger brands and brighter days for ADL in the years to come, with a growing partnership with SMSRC.

In our Industry, to measure the performance of a business multiple lag indicators are available; but to predict & choose a strategic direction for the business there is only one tool available. The qualitative analysis and insights of Rx data is the most critical tool available for the Industry. After a decade of Sales experience I started my career as a Brand Manager in DRL and in my first year I felt the qualitative data was a complex maze . But soon the data and insights started shaping not only my brands ; it started shaping a successful career for me.
In 2009 I was in Dubai managing the International business , when Mr. Sanjoy spoke to me about the idea of SMSRC. It is a great delight for me to know the SMSRC team is celebrating “First Decade of Success” . In my current role as a CEO of Curatio , I have been a significant beneficiary of using SMSRC data. I will first share a small , yet repetitive example of the value added by SMSRC . I meet several investors while handling my responsibilities. Invariably , each of these investors raise a “What if” question on our large Brand Tedibar. (Current year 60 Cr). How Tedibar will grow , when it is already at a leadership level ……. Every time my response brings significant conviction to them. I show the SMSRC data …. I take them to the prescriber base & per capita page …. I tell them that we have made an impact only on 11 out of 100 Dermatologists or 14 out of 100 paediatricians in 8 years. It means we have a significant scope to grow in multiples of todays’ revenue.
I distinctly remember our current investor ( incidentally they have invested in Mankind too ) validating some of the key Rx insights incorporated in the strategic growth plan of Curatio by setting up a meeting with Mr.Sanjoy. They took the decision to move in to our board after this meeting.
In our first decade , we have grown our portfolio with a set of assumptions on the four major areas within Dermatology. We decided to have a special strat plan exercise in collaboration with SMSRC team a couple of years ago . The two months project gave VALIDATED growth path for a re-aligned portfolio structure , which was not in our predicted lines and a tough idea for the promoters as well as the senior leaders to digest in the beginning . Yet the duo of Mr.Sanjoy and Mr.Aloke created conviction with the strength of the Rx data analytics generated by SMSRC team. The plan was not alone on what we have to do for Rx generation . It very impressively combined the business commercials of such re-alignment. It talked about the field force structuring. It talked about the One Constant message for the executing team. It suggested the steps for execution.
I always get impressed with the quick turn around time demonstrated by SMSRC team. This aspect was not known to Curatio PMT till 2014, when I joined. The PMT used to wait only for the periodic presentation day for their questions. In the last few years our PMT and my self had raised questions several times and we have always been served very quickly by Ms.Pamela or Mr.Aloke. Our Brand Managers sit at SMSRC office and study the data with help from SMSRC team. Not all the Top 100 companies in Pharma get conviction on the Value addition of an organisation like SMSRC. Even among the users there will be a few who do not leverage the value of the services. But in my long career I can say with significant conviction that corporates which use this service have only seen ever flourishing business. Individual marketing professionals had shaped a successful career for themselves because they aligned with the strategic directions suggested for their brands or portfolio. I wish SMSRC to be a significant player in making our Industry to move from current 1.4 Lakh Crore business to double this size in next 5 to 7 years. I convey Curatio team’s hearty appreciation to SMSRC team for their services to us and the industry.

It has been a great learning and exciting journey, working with SMSRC since we associated with Dr Sanjoy since 2015. From a company that believed in growth, we graduated to a company that builds brands.
SMSRC came in with radical suggestions. Most of them weren’t easy to digest. Not by our team or me. But they made sense. The challenge was perfect implementation, which with the help of SMSRC I think we have achieved. We remain thankful to SMSRC. Thanks to SMSRC we bought an office in the same building and have become their neighbors.
Before the SMSRC-Pharmed era, we were a company ready to launch anything and everything. We used to see good in everything to build up our business with possibly no long - term strategy. Truthfully SMSRC has helped transform us to an organization aligned to brand building. For example, in 2016, we were even going to launch a hair fall product which in retrospect makes no sense now.
SMSRC has also contributed to our teams’ sense of purpose. The same team are more productive with the new insight, knowledge and way of working. Today Our vision says it all, and everyone in the company can recite our vision statement in one breath. We owe it to SMSRC for removing this clutter and bringing in clarity to what we want to achieve. This transformation from a numbered vision to one which is crystal clear, right through every soul of the company is not yet complete, but we feel we are on the way to achieve it with certainty.
There are many times still we disagree with SMSRC and know that they may fault us. So we hide some things from SMSRC till we make a mistake and tell them. (SMSRC team: You may smile here). Another thing I hear Dr Sanjoy has become a real medical doctor prescribing Pharmed products wherever he goes. Good for us.

I am extremely happy to share that very recently Akumentis received ET Ascent award for – “The Emerging Pharma Company for the Year”. This is the third in a series of awards we got this year
The success and the transition in Akumentis have been possible through Go to Market Strategy conducted by SMSRC in Dec 2020 and the guidelines laid out for future. Right execution with no deviation ensured right results, the fruits of which we are currently enjoying.
The restructuring helped the firm to declutter and focus on right product mix to right Drs as well as increased productivity and consequently profitability.
Brand prioritization into Power & Focus acted as growth drivers and collectively they contribute to 80% to total business with 52% growth over last year.
SMSRC came up with disruptive approach which had huge impact on Akumentis performance ensuring a 11 rank jump and increased Market share. In this financial year also Akumentis is equally productive and showing significant growth over LY.
We are sure that this is just the beginning and going forward Akumentis will invariably continue to climb further up in the ranks and have a gratifying performance. We also take your input on consistent delivery coming only with strong focus and smart hard work and your exhortations do help the team to further pull up the boots to make it happen.
